(Michael Knorr was born in 1959 in Würzburg (located in northern Bavaria), Germany. Graduate of the Julius-Maximilian University of Würzburg in 1985, his Master’s degree was followed by a PhD (Dr.rer.nat.) in chemistry (1988) under the supervision of Prof. Ulrich Schubert on the synthesis and reactivity of organometallic silyl and stannyl complexes of iron and manganese. This PhD thesis was distinguished with the rarely awarded Summa cum Laude degree. As post-doctoral fellow (fellowship of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG) and associate researcher, he spent the next five years in France (with Pierre Braunstein, Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination) at the Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg) and spent also some months in the research group of Prof. R. J. P. Corriu at the Université de Montpellier. In 1994, he jointed the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of Prof. Michael Veith at the University of the Saarland (Saarbrücken, Germany) to complete his habilitation thesis on the activation of unsaturated organic molecules by heterobimetallic transition metal complexes. After appointment to assistant professor (Privat-Dozent) in 1997, he moved back to Strasbourg to collaborate with P. Braunstein’s laboratory and the Institut Charles Sadron. In 1999, he was appointed associate professor (PR 2) at the Université de Franche-Comté (Besançon, France) and was vice-director of the Laboratoire de Chime et Électrochimie Moléculaire. From 2000 - 2013 he led, first as associate professor (PR 2), then as full professor (PR 1), the research group Matériaux et Surfaces Structurés working on organic synthesis, coordination chemistry, molecular materials and the deposition of nano(micro) particles/thin films on surfaces/interfaces. From 2007-2011, he was also vice-director of the Institute UTINAM - UMR CNRS 6213. In 2014, he was promoted "Professeur Classe Exceptionnelle" (PR CE).



Research activities :

- Activation de petites molécules insaturées (SO2, CO, CNR, oléfine, alcyne) par des complexes hétérobimétalliques, insertion dans la liaison M-C ou M-H, couplage carbone-carbone, catalyse homogène.
- Élaboration de systèmes pi-conjugués organiques et organométalliques à base de briques azotées (2-azabutadiènes, 2,3-diazabutadiènes) ou riches en atomes de soufre (dithiolène, tétrathiafulvalène, ferrocènyle-thioéthers) et étude de leurs propriétés photophysiques et électrochimiques.
- Auto-assemblage de métallopolymères (polymères de coordination 1D et 2D et MOFs 3D) et construction de nanofils moléculaires ; étude de leurs propriétés photophysiques et électrochimiques, diffraction de rayons X.
- Elaboration de SAMs (Self-assembled monolayers) et modification des surfaces, reconnaissance moléculaire. Fonctionnalisation des particules de SiO2 par silanisation et/ou déposition des biopolymères - Élaboration de particules hybrides organique-inorganique pour la depollution.
- Chimie organométallique des ligands vinylidène, isonitrile et aminocarbyne, Chimie de coordination des dithioéther et tétrakisthioéther renfermant le Si ou Ge.
- Synthèse et réactivité des métaux de transition silylés LnM-SiR3.
- Synthèse et réactivité de molécules hétérocycliques via cycloaddtion (en collaboration avec Prof. M. Rammah et Prof. M. Askri, Université de Monastir, Tunisie.)]
