A multi-wavelength study of triggered star formation around Galactic H II regions

Résumé :

One of the more interesting premises connected with high mass star formation
is the possibility that one generation of massive stars and its associated
HII region could trigger further star formation as the HII region expands
into the surrounding interstellar medium. Several processes linked to the
expansion of an HII region may trigger star formation at their borders. We
are engaged in a multi-wavelength (optical, infrared, radio, etc) analysis
of Galactic HII regions. The use of multi-wavelength data is essential to
investigate the ionised, neutral, and molecular components of the gas, the
dust, and the population of young stellar objects (YSOs). A variety of HII
regions (bright, faint, smaller, nearby and distant) have been explored.
Among these are Bright-Rimmed Clouds (BRCs), Carina Nebula, W3 Main,
NGC 7538, NGC 1893, Sh 2-294, Sh 2-171, etc. Evidence for direct interactions
between the YSOs and molecular gas and the HII region have been found on
large and small scales. In this talk, I will describe results from our
ongoing investigation of triggered star formation.
